Follow-up lesson plan to Exploring Nature Through Language Arts at the Aldo Leopold Center

Spanish Level I Grades 7 & 8
Goal:
Students will be able to identify things in nature and describe the objects' characteristics.
Objectives:
0 Students will create a "Senses Hunt" in Spanish using a dictionary to find adjectives.
0 Students will recognize words in the dictionary as nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.
0 Students will write complete sentences in Spanish describing the qualities of things in nature.
0 Students will present a visual representation and oral description of one object from the "Senses Hunt".
Materials:
0 Spanish-English dictionary
0 "La Busqueda de los Sentidos" worksheet
0 Art supplies
Prior Knowledge:
0 Students have had an introduction to dictionary usage.
0 Students have done a unit on adjectives and know
masculine/feminine/singular/plural forms.
0 Students know the verb ser.
Procedure:
This is a two-part lesson. The in-class making of each student's Senses Hunt and the actual Hunt outdoors.
Part 1 :
1. Students will review dictionary use and parts of speech with teacher-led lecture.
2. Students will be given the worksheet "The Senses Hunt".
3. Students will use a dictionary to find the Spanish translation for the adjectives they want to use in their hunt.
4. Students will keep a record of the Spanish and English on the worksheet.
5. Students will check their adjectives with the teacher before beginning hunt.
Part 2 :
1. Students will take their worksheet, something to write with, and something to write on outside to designated "nature area" where hunt will take place.
2. Students will be given 15-20 minutes to circulate individually to search for objects that meet their descriptors. Each object will be recorded in English.
3. Students will return to classroom after allotted time to use dictionaries to find translations for objects chosen on hunt.
4. Students will use each object/descriptor pair in a complete sentence.
5. Students will finish worksheet as homework.
Assessment:
0 Students will turn in worksheet "La Busqueda de los Sentidos.
0 Students will do a presentation of one object found on the hunt give an oral description, and present a visual aid.
