"Using
the Outdoors to Make Academic Standards Fun!" Teacher's Workshop
Achieve academic
standards while investigating the wonders of the natural world with your students!
Sound too good to
be true?
We'll show you
how!
On Wednesday, June 13th, 2001, Nature Net presented a fun and
involving workshop to help teachers realize outdoor and hands-on ways to achieve state
standards! Representatives from several area Nature Centers guided teachers
through an exhilarating day of nature activities and tied each one to state
standards, including Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies and of course,
Environmental Education. Other topics discussed included effective assessment
techniques, pre- and post-field trip activities and how exploring the natural world
encourages all modalities of learning. It was suitable for elementary and middle
school grade levels but adaptable for high school.
The workshop was generously funded by the Wisconsin Environmental Education Board and
Pleasant Companys Fund for Children.
