Earth Day Bouquet 2012Celebrate the Earth!
In celebration of Earth Day, National Environmental Education Week, and the spring season,
Nature Net's "Earth Day Bouquet of Events" offers your family a variety of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, get involved in your local and natural community, and become motivated to make a difference in the health and sustainability of the environment.

Check the schedule of free and low-cost family events below and mark your calendar for a Bouquet of things to do, explore and learn about this Earth Day season.

Earth Day Bouquet Schedule of Events
Events take place at Nature Net sites between April 14-29. Registration, fees and details vary. Click each link for details and check back for updates!

% indicates registration is required. $ indicates a fee.

Saturday, April 14
Troy Gardens/Community GroundWorks
Get to Know the Natural Areas 10am-12:30pm
Tour the woodlands, gardens, and prairie, followed by a planting workshop in the Edible Woodland.

Olbrich Botanical Gardens
WI Gourd Society Festival 9am-4pm
Rattle Making Workshop 1-2pm and 2:30-3:30pm

Enjoy live music, purchase gourds and supplies from vendors, talk with artists, attend a class, receive gourd growing information, and more. Sign up for some fun and make your own dried gourd rattle to take home—Ages 5-12 w/ adult. (Free event, workshop). % $

Sunday, April 15
Cherokee Marsh
Hike the Marsh
Discover nature and hike the marsh at your leisure. Look and listen for wetland wildlife emerging for spring. Open from dawn to dusk.

International Crane Foundation
Visit!
Catch a guided tour or take a hike through the nature trails and learn about cranes, ecology and conservation. $

Madison Children's Museum
Rooftop Olympics 1-3pm
Enjoy the outdoors on the rooftop of the museum! Participate in fun spring games and sports.

Monday, April 16
MacKenzie Environmental Education Center
Hike and Explore on Your Own
Learn about the environment and be inspired to take care of it! Museuma nd wildlife exhibits are open 8am-4pm; trails are open dawn to dusk.

Tuesday, April 17
Aldo Leopold Nature Center
Banff Mountain Film Festival 7-10pm
Join the Aldo Leopold Nature Center and REI for the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour’s stop to Madison! This year's tour features a collection of the most inspiring action, environmental, and adventure films, showing at the Barrymore Theater. Tickets are sold at all Barrymore distributors, REI Madison, and barrymorelive.com. $

Wednesday, April 18
Olbrich Botanical Gardens
Garden and Conservatory Exploration 8am-8pm (Indoor 10am-4pm)
Explore the outdoor gardens and look for plants starting to sprout or take a trip to the tropics with a stroll through the Bolz Conservatory.  ($2 Conservatory fee waived Wed and Sat 10am-12pm).

Aldo Leopold Nature Center
Banff Mountain Film Festival 7-10pm
Join the Aldo Leopold Nature Center and REI for the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour’s stop to Madison! Geology Museum
Museum Storytime 10:30am
Museum storytime is geared toward preschool-aged children and each week features a book, museum specimens and a craft to take home.

Madison Children's Museum
Rooftop Scientists 3:30-4pm
Drop-in science activities exploring the plants, animals, and changing weather on the Rooftop Ramble.

Friday, April 20
Bethel Horizons
Star Party Friday-Saturday
This special astronomy weekend, presented in conjunction with the Iowa County Astronomers organization, will include guest speakers, telescope viewing sessions, constellation mythology, and a variety of other night and day-time activities. Runs Friday evening through Saturday evening – rooms, camping spaces and food are available. Call 608.574.1992 for more info. %

Aldo Leopold Nature Center
Grand Opening Celebration 11am-3pm
Celebrate the opening of ALNC’s new interactive education center. Enjoy new exhibits, exciting shows on the six-foot diameter Science on a Sphere, tours, live musical entertainment, nature activities, electric car demonstration and more!

Madison Parks
Earth Day Challenge 9am-12pm
Join this communitywide effort to celebrate Earth Day with your neighbors and friends by helping to clean up one of Madison’s 265 city parks. %

Aldo Leopold Foundation
Trail Building Volunteer Day 9am-12pm
Have some fun and help out with building brand new trails, preparing phenology plots, and more! Lunch and tour opportunities included. %

Madison Children's Museum
Heartland Farm Sanctuary: Farm on Wheels 1-3pm
Kids will get a chance to pet goats, hold roosters, and learn what makes each of the Animals with Heart: Heartland Farm Sanctuary rescued animals special.

Sunday, April 22
UW Arboretum
Earth Day at the Arboretum 8am-4pm
Take themed family hikes, participate in Earth Day activities, listen to live music, and view Earth Day exhibits.

Henry Vilas Zoo
Earth Day
Gear up for Earth Day with the Zoo! HLearn about conservation and natural resources – view the animals, see energy demonstrations and take home a seedling to plant!

Madison Children's Museum
Earth Day 12-2pm
Join John Francis, the Planetwalker, for an afternoon of stories, music and fun, with a real Earth Day Planetwalk.

Monday, April 23
Dane County Parks
Visit!
Come out and enjoy the trails in the parks and grounds. Visit Lake Farm County Park and the Lussier Family Heritage Center from dawn to dusk and see your local ecosystems in action.

Tuesday, April 24
Aldo Leopold Foundation
Self-Guided Tours 10am-3pm
Take a peek at the country's first LEED-platinum facility, tour the Leopold family shack and learn about Aldo Leopold and his environmental work. Wander the grounds to see sprouting wildflowers and spring wildlife.

Wednesday, April 25
Madison Children's Museum
Rooftop Farmers 3-3:30pm
Help with the daily chores of taking care of a rooftop farm in the sky. Feed the animals and water the plants, harvest vegetables, plant a seed, prepare and taste homegrown food, and do nature crafts.

Thursday, April 26
Aldo Leopold Nature Center
Nature Discovery and Adventure Summer Camps Open House 4-6pm
Get a special sneak preview of the Aldo Leopold Nature Center’s nature discovery summer camps for ages 2-10 and new adventure summer camps for ages 11-16! Meet ALNC staff, see photos from last year’s camps and find out more about exciting themes like Steward Little, Pioneer Wagon Train and Apostle Island Sea Kayaking!

Friday, April 27
Olbrich Botanical Gardens
Toddler Story & Stroll: Down by the Pond 10-11am

Play and learn with your youngster in this fun, hands-on series that focuses on the wet and wild world around Olbrich's pond—ages 2-4 with an adult. % $

Saturday, April 28
Bethel Horizons
Earth Day Celebration 9am-5pm
Enjoy the beautiful wildflowers, the magnificent view, an abundance of migrating birds, and a variety of environmental activities, demonstrations and speakers emphasizing the beauty and importance of nature. This is an Earth Day, Astronomy Day, Arbor Day and Spring Festival wrapped into one celebration!

Aldo Leopold Nature Center
Trees Please! Wonder Bugs Family Day 9:30-10:45am
You and your toddler can get up close and personal with beautiful trees in honor of Arbor Day. Branch out your knowledge with stories and games. % $

Sunday, April 29
Geology Museum
Geology Museum Open House 12-4pm
Have fun at the Geology Museum Open House, featuring hands-on science activities and games.
