Come one, come all to ALNC's unique and unforgettable
celebration of the season! This family-friendly event offers a
blend of indoor and outdoor activities found nowhere else in
Madison. Stations throughout the Nature Center grounds will lead
visitors, at their own pace, through the history of maple
syruping and related activities. Visitors will see
demonstrations of various methods by which Native Americans,
pioneers, and people today tap trees for the production of maple
syrup and sugar. It's a sweet way to start the spring season off

ACOUSTIC MONITORING OF BAT POPULATIONS
Friday, May 21, 2010
7:30 – 9:30 pm
Join ALNC naturalist and Wisconsin Bat Monitoring Program
volunteer Jennifer Schehr for an evening all about bats! Learn
about the local species and threats to populations, such as
white nose syndrome, while meeting a live bat ambassador. After
sunset, we’ll also head outdoors to learn techniques and conduct
acoustic monitoring, if weather permits. Acoustic monitoring
allows us to detect and record calls of echo-locating bats that
can be used to assess relative activity and identify species or
groups of species and local diversity of bat populations.
Pre-registration recommended; walk-ins accepted.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, May 19, 2010
